What a BEE-YOO-TEE-FUL day out today in Minnesota! 86º and sunny! This is more akin to summer weather, but hey, I'm not complaining. It was a fairly windy Mother's Day weekend, which also happened to be Minnesota's FISHING OPENER! For those of you not familiar, fishing season usually kicks off around this time each year, and it's kind of a big deal. I live on a lake, and there were boats and boats and even more boats in the vicinity these last 48 hours. In celebration of this holiday-grade occasion, my cartoon selection of the week is the original score from Tex Avery's animated short "Field And Scream" (MGM, 1955). Composed by Scott Bradley, it plays along to all the fishing and hunting gags seen in the cartoon, minus the recorded dialog and sound effects. Haven't seen it? Check it out in all its glory here. The sportsman in you will laugh your fin off! Aside from that, check out the AWESOME mix of tunes (mostly new) in the playlist below! This week's mix is as fresh n' pleasant as it is outside today! My opening track, Eternal Summers' "Millions" is sure to be a danceable rock favorite ALL [eternal] summer long! :-)
PLAYLIST:
Eternal Summers - Millions
Hot Chip - Night And Day
M83 - Reunion
The Horrors - Endless Blue
Errors - Pleasure Palaces

The Cribs - Comes On Be A No-One
Scott Bradley - Field And Scream

Welcome to Show #25! The Coachella Festival (part 1 of 2) occured over the weekend, and what a weekend it was! "Hologram Tupac" seems to be the topic of interest around most hipster watercoolers today. I highlight a block of some of my favorite artists who performed at the festival, most notably PULP! I'd give my pink glove to see them in person. My cartoon selection of the week is a 1947 Disney/Capitol record release of "Mickey And The Beanstalk!" You get Mickey, Donald, Goofy, AND The Singing Harp herself! Enjoy! Now that this week's show is in the can, time to get down to business and finish up my taxes! Even with two extra days to file this year, I procrastinated to the very bitter end. I'll be weeping when I finally click that e-file button...

A toy choo-choo train chock full of new music and more Christmas cheer!
We're less than a week away from the Baby Jesus' birthday, so what better way to celebrate it than to spin new stuff from Terry Malts, School Of Seven Bells, and more Noel Gallagher? Fall into a dreamy stupor with Low's classic "Little Drummer Boy" and a brand-new holiday standard from She & Him! Also, be on the lookout for a very UN-Goofy sounding Goofy in Jiminy Cricket's 1958 number, "From All Of Us To All Of You." Goofy, what ARE you saying?!? Don't worry, Mickey sounds perfect though. I just think Goofy had one too many spiked eggnogs at the recording studio that day. Merry Christmas, ev'ryone!

It's a semi-Christmas episode this week! "Semi," adjectively speaking, as in I filled about half of this show with holiday cheer!
Ah, but I have a few new un-Christmas tunes for you as well! Hot off the moon is Air's fresh new track, "Seven Stars," featuring vocals from Beach House's Victoria Legrand. This is coming off Air's forthcoming seventh studio album Le Voyage Dans La Lune (A Trip To The Moon). Sound familiar? It should if you're a fan of a classic short film from 1902! More on that in the near future! Also new music from The Good Natured and M83, and I did mention Christmas, right? So we also feature a new holiday recording by Sloan. And even more thrown into the holiday mixer, using both rock AND cartoon flavors!
PLAYLIST:
Air - Seven Stars
Daffy Duck - All I Want For Christmas is More, More, More
Sloan - The 12 Days Of Christmas

Lotso NEW stuff in store for you this week!
It's a special "Cyber Monday" edition of The Rock & Roll Cartoon Hour (translation: it has nothing to do with Cyber Monday besides the cyber part... streaming online). I saw The Muppets movie this past Thanksgiving weekend - all I can say is WOW! It was everything a Muppet fan could want in a Muppet movie, and more! Except for the fart shoes. Fozzie would know better than that. With that, we present one of the [50% of Flight Of The Conchords] Bret McKenzie-penned tunes, "Man Or Muppet," as sung by Jason Segel and new Muppet, Walter! And yes, it's very FOTC-esque, FYI.
Also, Gorillaz turned 10 this year, and in celebration of today's UK release of The Singles Collection 2001-2011, we spin a Gorillaz standard... remixed! Also music from The Good Natured, Tycho, Lana Del Rey, plus the rest of the playlist, below! And yes, we kick off the OFFICIAL holiday season (Santa at the end of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade told me so) with a classic Christmas tune as sung by The Chipmunks!
Are you STILL eating those cold cranberry and stuffing sandwiches?? Have a good week!
PLAYLIST:
Gorillaz - DARE (Junior Sanchez Remix)
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Soldier Boys And Jesus Freaks
Flight Of The Conchords - Albi
Jason Segel & Walter - Man Or Muppet
The Good Natured - Your Body Is A Machine
Tycho - Hours
The Chipmunks - It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
Lana Del Rey - Blue Jeans

I'm back! And I can speak! And it's THANKSGIVING this week!
To keep us all in the "turkey" mood, I've included a few songs this week that relate to BIRDS! How quaint! I even serve up an actual THANKSGIVING song by none other than the Vince Guaraldi Trio (Guaraldi did more than just A Charlie Brown Christmas, you know). Grab a cranberry cocktail and enjoy "Thanksgiving Theme," originally recorded for 1973's A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving!
The London Philharmonic Orchestra performs "Angry Birds: Main Theme" (in case you missed it last week!) and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds brings you one of their stellar b-sides, "Let The Lord Shine A Light On Me." We also celebrate the recent "director's cut" reissue of The Who's 1973 masterpiece Quadrophenia (perhaps my favorite Who album ever) with "Bell Boy," and go on a little safari to the Pride Lands with the Simba-less, lesser-known cut of "I Just Can't Wait To Be King" - Elton John's original!
Enjoy your turkey-induced comas this week, listeners!
PLAYLIST:
Pet Shop Boys - Integral
London Philharmonic Orchestra - Angry Birds: Main Theme
Stardust - Music Sounds Better With You
M83 - Year One, One UFO
Vince Guaraldi Trio - Thanksgiving Theme
Röyksopp - I Wanna Know
Depeche Mode - My Joy
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Let The Lord Shine A Light On Me
Elton John - I Just Can't Wait To Be King
Caesars - Winter Song
U2 - Get On Your Boots (Justice Remix)
Hot Chip - Take It In
The Who - Bell Boy
Alan Silvestri - Who Framed Roger Rabbit (End Theme)

Another bout of microphone issues kept me silent this week, so Episode #3 turns out to be more of a mixtape!
Enjoy the London Philharmonic Orchestra's take on "Angry Birds!" Also, anybody remember U2 on The Simpsons' 200th episode back in 1998? If so, you may remember the Irish lads having a drink in Moe's Tavern, singing along to "The Garbageman." This week I feature the "demo" version, minus the regular cast voices and U2 (sorry!) - but it's a fun insight on the early development of a Simpsons song. This and more - full playlist below!
PLAYLIST:
Cut Copy - Going Nowhere
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - If I Had A Gun...

***APOLOGIES FOR THE MICROPHONE ISSUES THIS WEEK - something is up with my audio interface, but I hope to have that fixed by next week. Basically every time I'm speaking between songs, you'll hear some little clicks and pops - nothing major but I definitely wasn't going for the old dusty record sound! :-)
Anyway! I'm back for my second ever show, with even more new music and another fun piece from cartoon history. Tomorrow (11/08), Noel Gallagher sees the US release of his debut solo album, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, so we kick off this week with one of his best compositions ever (in MY opinion): "Stop The Clocks." Our cartoon feature of the week is the original music score from the 1955 Tom & Jerry animated short, Pecos Pest. Musical direction by resident MGM composer Scott Bradley and vocals (uncredited) by comic actor/musician Shug Fisher. The singing in this cartoon makes me laugh EVERY time! We also stop by the Ink & Paint Club for some Scotch on the rocks (and I mean ice!) and listen in on the famous scene as performed by one Mrs. Jessica Rabbit. Also, we celebrate 10 years of Gorillaz and 20 years of Achtung Baby! Plus a lot more stuffed into this week's hour-long broadcast! Full playlist below!
PLAYLIST:
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Stop The Clocks
